![]() While the switch to USB-C on iPhones sounds like a good thing, there have been some concerns that Apple could ruin the whole transition. But in the absence of an official announcement, it looks like this isn't happening.Īgain there's been no word on faster charging speeds, which has us worried that the iPhone 15 Pro will be stuck at 20W speeds just like the iPhone 14 Pro. There had been rumors that both Pro models could have Thunderbolt 3 support, which would have enhanced the USB-C port even further, with significantly faster data transfer speeds and other capabilities. That means the cable inside the box will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds. Pro users will also have to buy a USB 3.0-compatible cable, which Apple confirmed would be an optional purchase. Those are things that USB 2.0 is too slow to handle, and means the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are likely to miss out. It also noted that filmmakers would be able to record video directly to an external storage device via the iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C port. It's 20x faster than USB 2.0, and means both Pro models will be able to do things that just weren't possible on previous iPhones.Īpple specifically mentioning outputting video content at 4K 60fps and in HDR. That's not hugely quick, but it is still significantly faster than any iPhone that has come before it. Apple confirmed that both phones will come with a USB 3.0 port, which offers 10Gbps data transfer speeds. While the iPhone 15 may not get a speed boost from the switch to USB-C, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are a little luckier. iPhone 15 with USB-C: How this affects iPhone 15 It was only a matter of time, and now that time has come. It’s much easier, and more logical, to do what it's done and have a single product line that’s available everywhere. It was always incredibly unlikely that Apple would bother developing a USB-C iPhone that was only sold in the EU. While the laws only mandate the use of USB-C within the EU, it seems that those new rules have, once again, had a ripple effect across the entire planet.Ī number of countries have already suggested following the EU’s example and mandating USB-C charging - including India, South Korea and the U.S. The company also said it agreed with the EU’s environmental goals at the time, but has maintained on multiple occasions that ditching Lighting would cause more e-waste than it prevents.ĭespite that opposition, Apple has confirmed it will comply with the EU’s ruling, and has confirmed that the iPhone 15 is the first iPhone to come with a standard USB-C port. Several months later, in October 2022, the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted in favor of this new rule.Īpple was vocally critical of the idea of a common charger, even before the first draft legislation was written, arguing that mandating one connection over another “stifles innovation rather than encouraging it” and that such a rule would “harm consumers in Europe and around the world”. The wheels of politics move very slowly, after all. There were several years of discussion, and it wasn’t until January 2022 that the first draft legislation was published. Phone makers then eventually moved away from microUSB in favor of USB-C, and while things seemed quiet, the push to legislate a common charger never really went away. However compliance was voluntary, and this allowed Apple to keep its own proprietary charging port for as long as it has. Back in 2010 EU standards bodies pushed to have microUSB as the universal cell phone charger, which prompted large groups of phone makers to ditch proprietary cables. The EU’s push for a common charging standard is nothing new. There is no voltage at the Roland computer port connection to provide a charge. NOTE: Your iPad will not charge from your Roland. Then I plug the other ends 'usb type b' into the keyboards computer ports (one into the Roland and one into the Kurzweil).Into the mini-USB hub I blug two standard printer cables (usb type 'a' to usb type 'b').Plugged into the other end of the iPad camera connection adaptor is a mini-USB 4 port HUB. ![]() ![]() My iPad has the iPad camera connection adaptor plugged directly into it.Here is exactly how I set up my connections: My iPad runs the Unrealbook app which contains all my set lists & songs, and behind each song PDF is a midi HEX string which is sent to both keyboards automatically when I select a song, and this midi HEX string selects the correct patches on each keyboard I require to play the song. I use an apple camera connection kit adaptor to connect my iPad to both my RolandRD800 & Kurzweil Forte keyboards.
